Imagine a child visiting an animal shelter with her parents. Her mom and dad have told her she can select just one dog for a family pet, but upon seeing all the animals in need of a home, she stomps her feet and demands her parents let her take all of them home. The child sees this as clearly the right thing to do. Naturally, the child would not consider the cost and effort to properly care for every animal. She just sees a sad situation and wants to help. The parents, however, are well aware of what would become of their home if they exercised the child’s idea of compassion.
Classic liberals have always had a reputation of being controlled by their heartstrings, but modern leftists are simply children who never grew up. Much like the girl at the shelter, no thought is ever given to the cost or unintended negative consequences of their policies. Further, the rule of law means nothing when it rubs against their moral compass. The left believes they alone define morality, and no MAGA extremist Republican with a pocket Constitution and basic math skills is going to tell them any different. After all, they see a sad situation in immigration and they want to help. With other people’s money, of course. No one is more generous with other people’s money than a Democrat, nor is anyone more hospitable with other people’s land. When their money and their land become involved, however, it has been observed that their attitude changes significantly.
In a previous article, I applauded forcing Democrats to feel the effects of their own policies. Governors Abbott and DeSantis have done an excellent job at making deep blue sanctuary states a reality by transporting thousands of illegal immigrants to the Northeast. As a result, in remarkable speed, Cambridge-dwelling wokescolds went from reciting Emma Lazarus poetry to declaring a State of Emergency. After years of advocating an open border from a presumably safe distance of 2000 miles, Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey is now begging for federal aid due to over 20,000 people in shelters across the state. This 80% surge over last year has left taxpayers with bills totaling $45M and climbing. The problem is so bad that Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll urged citizens with an extra room in their home to consider hosting a family. It was unclear at the time of this writing exactly how many migrants Healey and Driscoll have welcomed into their own homes.
Even now, when confronted with the serious damage done to their own community resources, the Democrats refuse to admit that Biden’s open border, as well as blue state illegal immigrant entitlements, may not be in the best interest of the nation. Instead, they plead for the Democrat panacea of federal money to stem the tide of their own self destruction. They also want DC to grant amnesty, so the criminal aliens can cut the line of legal immigrants who have shown respect to our country’s laws. Now, rational adults would admit they were wrong and immediately advocate for border security for the benefit of their own citizens, but not the left. They are in a state of denial and refuse to change course. Nothing shall supersede their ideology, their long term political goals and the feelings of moral superiority they achieve from their misguided sense of compassion.
Democrats have recklessly turned America into the homeless shelter for the western hemisphere. Now, they are asking responsible taxpayers across the nation to pay for it. They will likely get some inflated dollars from Biden’s handlers, too, as this is a crisis of their own design and there is an election approaching. Besides, what’s another $100M in taxpayer funds? Democrats need to feel good about themselves, and you can’t put a price on that.
