When the Democrats and Teacher’s Unions shut down schools during Covid, students suffered through a lack of socialization, canceled athletic seasons, and half-assed remote learning programs. We knew it was harmful at the time, but did not truly know the extent of the damage until studies were done the following year showing how depressed and academically atrophied the students had become. Many who saw this research vowed to never allow school closures to happen again.

James Madison in Brooklyn is a government high school quite familiar with the bad memories of shutdowns.  Flashbacks were triggered this week as parents and students were notified that for the immediate future, the school would not be able to provide in-person education to the taxpayers who pay for it. Instead, the school would be used as a shelter for approximately two thousand illegal immigrants whose temporary shelters were impacted by recent weather. 

Undeniably, the open border and all of its negative consequences are directly Biden’s fault for reversing Trump’s effective border control policies.  Though, closer to home to this abuse of American citizens is Mayor Eric Adams, who refuses to rescind his city’s sanctuary status.  That is all it would take to put an end to this chaos.  Simply make a statement that NYC is no longer a sanctuary city and New Yorkers support the rule of law, including a secure border.  Do that, and the buses from Gov. Abbott will go elsewhere. But Adams won’t do that.  He will not admit that he was wrong, as were his woke donors.  Collectively, they would prefer to see their city, state, and country burn to the ground before allowing any political favor to befall conservatives.

It has been said that people get the government they deserve.  That is why some may find it difficult to sympathize with the victims of this closure when considering that Brooklyn supported Biden over Trump 3-1 in 2020.  Democrats have not been shy about prioritizing illegal immigrants over American citizens now for at least a decade. Yet most New Yorkers proudly voted blue anyway and were happy to call Republicans racist.   Now, American kids are again being shafted so that future Democrat voters can sleep in their schools. Perhaps their parents will consider voting America First next election?

I wouldn’t bet on it. The most likely scenario is that they will continue to vote for their own destruction out of fear that their neighbors will call them racist if they don’t. That is the paradoxical mindset of the modern Democrat.
