Have you ever noticed how appreciative and protective immigrants are when discussing American principles? Often times, they show far more gratitude and patriotism than even natural born citizens. The reason for this is simple – they have experienced life without freedom. Perhaps they saw a parent imprisoned for saying the wrong thing about an unelected dictator. Maybe an antiquated caste system kept their family impoverished no matter how hard they worked. Whatever injustices they suffered, they believed in the promise of America enough to move here, and now that they have experienced freedom, nobody is going to take it away. An outstanding example of this protective instinct occurred this week during Merrick Garland’s testimony before the House Judiciary Committee.
Representatives Jim Jordan and Chip Roy made headlines confronting Garland on the shameful politicization of the DOJ under his watch. They covered the FBI’s targeting of Catholics, student parents, pro-lifers, and Trump supporters, as well as the coddling special treatment received by President Biden’s son. To these topics and more, the sniveling AG squirmed in his chair and stuttered non-responses for several hours. The most brutal verbal lashing Garland received, however, came from Rep. Victoria Spartz (IN), a two-term Republican Congresswoman who was born in Ukraine. With the distinct passion found in refugees from the former Soviet bloc, Spartz made Merrick Garland painfully aware of his complicity in destroying American values.
Rep. Spartz pointed out that Americans are embarrassed of what their government agencies have become. She compared Garland’s DOJ to the KGB and posed to him a simple question, “Are you aware that a lot of Americans are now afraid of being prosecuted by your department?” She was questioning whether he knew or cared that innocent Americans now fear their own government. She then attempted to explain to the tyrant weasel that this is not a good thing. The citizens she represents see the corruption, the lack of accountability, the selective prosecution, and they no longer trust their own Justice Department. The Congresswoman went on to educate Garland that the Biden Administration’s unconstitutional abuses of power give credence to propaganda from foreign adversaries who wish to tear down America’s reputation as the standard for free and just nations.
For the most part, Garland sat there stupefied, but for a few moments, his expression almost seemed sympathetic to her sentiments. One may have half expected him to apologize for his disastrous performance and promise to do better for the American people. Ultimately, however, he would prove incapable of understanding her grievance because elitists such as Garland actually believe in a two-tiered system of justice. The ruling class has important business to which they must attend, and they should not be burdened with arbitrary behavioral standards or “laws” that are solely intended to keep the ignorant masses in line. When the underclass shows troubling behavior such as questioning election legitimacy or disobeying Covid mandates, it is the moral duty of the ruling class to rein in such extremism with censorship, intimidation and investigative visits from FBI agents. This diminutive bureaucrat wanted to be a Supreme Court Justice and was given the role of AG as a consolation prize. Now Garland is just like Biden, a passive figurehead being told what to do by an Obama legacy deep state. Unlike Biden, one gets the impression that Garland has the state of mind to understand that he is contributing to the degradation of America’s founding principles. If you watch the exchange, the frustration of Rep. Spartz seems to stem from her impression that Garland was aware of the problems at the DOJ, but his cowardice prevents him from standing up for what is right.
This country would be a much better place if more citizens felt the outrage shown by Rep. Spartz in her dismantling of AG Garland. If Americans choose not to heed her words, the Tytler cycle predicts that our Republic will continue to unravel. If that happens, many more citizens will come to understand, just as the Congresswoman does, exactly what life is like without freedom.
