If you look online you can find various emblems and designs people have proposed as a symbol for an “America First” party, should one ever officially exist. Consistent with most of the proposals is the depiction of a lion, ditching the GOP’s historic elephant mascot, clearly a nod to Donald Trump’s reinvention of the Republican party and fearless leadership persona. In Davos, Switzerland this week, at the World Economic Forum, the Lion made an appearance.
Historically, Davos is the place where once a year people who fancy themselves as humanity’s elite fly on their private jets to sip expensive wine and lecture the United States on income inequality, the threat of climate change, the morality of mass migration, and the importance of global governance.
This year was different.
While the familiar musk of self congratulatory European smugness hung in the air at first, it did not last long. When leaders from Argentina, Poland, Hungary, and Italy spoke about the success their countries have had by denying globalism and collectivism while embracing nationalism and individualism, audiences were captive and envious. It was difficult for the UK and other European nations to convincingly posture this year as anyone with an X account can tell you that all their policies of the past decade have gotten them is nothing but endless debt and a seemingly inescapable path toward becoming Islamic caliphates.
But in truth, it was the wings of Air Force One that delivered the final gust of sobering winter air that blasted away any last trace of elitist smuggery. President Trump’s Davos speech laid out not only the successes America has had over the past year, but how the world shares in that success. It is the US economy that powers the world. It is US freedom that makes advancement in technology and medicine possible. It is our military might that ends wars. And if President Trump says the US should have unrestricted access to Greenland for the security of western civilization, interested parties should take heed.
But of course on the topic of Greenland, the collectivist sheep of the Davos attendees and the media over the past month have bleated their typical noises of mockery, contempt, and the obsessive hatred they mistake for virtue, but it made no matter. While other leaders went home with nothing but souvenir snow globes, America’s President brought home an historic agreement. One that gives the US access to Greenland for minerals rights and military use, including Golden Dome missile defense. This is an enormous win for national security and world peace.
Just like making peace in Gaza, eliminating the Iranian nuclear threat, using tariffs to negotiate trade deals, and everything else Trump does, the sheep bought into the media hysteria about Greenland and predicted armageddon. But as always, Trump proved them all wrong, because his instinctual leadership is second to none, he is America First, and the lion never concerns himself with the opinion of sheep.
So, so good. I love your perspective and how well you write. Keep it up!
Great piece Joe
