The Democrats’ behavior during Trump’s address to Congress earlier this week did nothing to improve their reputation as narcissistic, petulant children. They seemed far more interested in waving little signs on popsicle sticks and making TikTok videos than they did in finding ways to move the country towards prosperity and unity. The last election should have convinced them that the American people have grown quite weary of their “Trump is Hitler, so we’re going to oppose everything he does” attitude. However, the Democrats seem incapable of changing course because for the past decade, their guiding star has been their hatred for Donald Trump. It is how they tell friend from foe. It is the glue that holds them together. When asked about their policies or plans to improve the lives of Americans, their responses invariably reference Donald Trump and opposing his views.
The problem with that is simply being anti-Trump is no better a policy prescription now than it was when Biden, upon taking office, reflexively canceled all of Trump’s energy and border executive orders, causing almost irreparable harm to the nation. This approach becomes particularly ineffective when one considers that many of Trump’s policies are extremely popular. Border security, government waste reduction, and protecting women’s sports have become 80/20 issues, meaning four out of five Americans support them. They are a layup for unity and issues upon which all rational adults should be able to agree, but Democrats are not rational adults.
Their Marxist doctrine is fed by raw emotion, and that of a mob. Where values and principles should reside, the modern left only possesses an ad-hoc, anti-Trump moral code. If MAGA is for it, the Democrats must oppose it. It is from this opposition that they derive their coveted moral superiority. Trump is bad, and they are good for opposing him. This is indicative of the intellectual laziness we often see on the left. It has been said that the right focuses on ideas, while the left focuses on people. A conservative can take or leave an idea, while not discarding the individual who espouses it if they disagree. However, once a leftist disagrees with a person on a political issue, judgement of their moral character often follows suit. Of course, this prevents them from seeing any issue clearly. And when it comes to Trump, they are truly blinded by hate.
What 36 million people saw in the Democrats’ behavior on Tuesday was that they have more hatred for the President than love for the country. So much so that they could not even respectfully stand for widows and orphans, returned hostages, or a child fighting through cancer. America saw the Democrat party for what it has become, a group of elitist malcontents who not only choose to be defined by their hate, they consider it a virtue to display at every opportunity. The American people clearly find this uninspiring, unproductive, and ugly.
So, let them oppose everything Trump does. Let them fight to keep violent criminal illegal immigrants on our streets. Let them passionately defend government fraud, waste, and abuse. Let them force girls to compete with men. Democrats have chosen to die on hills where there should be harmonious unity, and dying they are. Confucius is credited with saying, “If you hate a person, you are defeated by them.” Well, the American people have signaled that they are done with the mindless bitterness and division. If Democrats cannot let go of their blind hatred, defeat is something they will need to get used to.
